Our ability to retrieve events becomes a struggle at times. It rarely has to do with age. Retrieval has much more to do with the reality of our need for triggers or cues.
Ever hear a song you had not listened to in years and you can recall every word?
Ever had a friend mention someones name and suddenly you are there with that person?
Ever take a scan through a photo album and the memories are like waves of the sea?
Ever stare at a grave marker and you recall their laughter and smile?
Memory triggers have been provided by God since the creation of the world. Here are just a few:
- Time of sacrifice for Cain and Abel
- Passover
- Stones at Gilgal
- Stones in the Jordon
- Communion
God knows we need help to remember. Memory reminds us that God is the provider of all things. Memory keeps us close to the heartbeat of God. Memory reminds us of who we live for. Memory reminds us of our true purpose each day. Memory reminds us of why we chose the person we married. Memory reminds us of our role with our children.
Place some memory triggers into your daily world to remind yourself of God's involvement in your life. He does care for you.
What are some of your memory triggers?
